Most PC users never need to change the size of the Windows 10 taskbar as the default size is ideal for the most. That said, some users might want to make the taskbar smaller or bigger.
Before we tell you how to make the taskbar smaller or bigger, please note that you cannot reduce the default height of the taskbar without making the icons smaller. Besides that, you cannot change the default width of the taskbar. So, in simple words, you can only change the height of the taskbar.
The procedure to change the Windows 10 taskbar size is identical to the one in earlier versions of the Windows operating system. You can drag the taskbar to change its default height. Before doing that, make sure that the taskbar is not locked!
Complete the given below directions to make the taskbar smaller or larger in Windows 10.
To make the taskbar larger
Step 1: To be able to change the taskbar size, you need to make sure that the taskbar is not locked. If locked, you need to unlock it. To do that, right-click on an empty spot on the taskbar and then deselect the Lock the taskbar option to unlock the taskbar.
Step 2: Place the mouse cursor on the upper edge of the taskbar to see the two-way arrow icon. Click, hold, and drag up the mouse cursor to change the taskbar height. You can drag the mouse cursor to get the desired taskbar height.
If the two-way arrow icon doesn’t show up when you place the mouse cursor over the upper edge of the taskbar, it’s because you have not unlocked the taskbar as mentioned in Step 1.
Note that you cannot expand the taskbar beyond the halfway mark of the screen.
Step 3: Once you are satisfied with the new size of the taskbar, right-click on an empty spot on the taskbar and select the Lock the taskbar option to lock the taskbar again. As you know by now, you cannot change the taskbar size when it’s locked.
To make the taskbar smaller
If you wish to make the taskbar smaller than the default size, you need to navigate to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar and then turn on Use small taskbar buttons option. Turning on the Use small taskbar buttons option automatically makes the taskbar smaller. You cannot reduce the taskbar height further from this point.
