How To Mount Or Unmount ISO/IMG Files In Windows 11

Windows 11 supports ISO and IMG files out of the box, helping users mount and unmount ISO and IMG files without installing third-party software.

Multiple ways exist to mount and unmount ISO and IMG files in Windows 11. This guide shows you the four easy ways out there to mount ISO and IMG files and two ways to unmount them in Windows 11.

NOTE: Windows 11 might take a few seconds to mount an ISO/IMG file. So, you might have to wait a few seconds after clicking the Mount option.

Four ways to mount an ISO/IMG file in Windows 11

Method 1 of 4

Mount ISO/IMG file by double-clicking on them

Step 1: Open File Explorer and navigate to the folder where ISO/IMG file is saved.

Step 2: Perform a double-click on the ISO or IMG file to mount it. If you prefer using the keyboard over the mouse, select the ISO/IMG file and then press the Enter key.

Step 3: If you see a warning prompt with “Do you want to open this file?” message, click the Open button.

Method 2 of 4

Mount ISO/IMG file in Windows 11 via the file context menu

Step 1: Navigate to the folder containing the ISO/IMG file.

Step 2: Perform a right-click on the ISO/IMG file and then click the Mount option to immediately mount the ISO file in the File Explorer.

Another way to mount ISO/IMG file via the right-click menu in Windows 11

Step 1: Right-click on the ISO/IMG file you want to mount, click Open with, and then click File Explorer to mount the selected ISO/IMG file.

Method 4 of 4

Mount ISO file from File Explorer in Windows 11

Step 1: Navigate to the folder containing the ISO/IMG file you want to mount.

Step 2: Select the ISO/IMG file by clicking on it. Once the ISO/IMG file is selected, you should see the Mount option in the File Explorer toolbar. Click on it to mount the selected ISO/IMG file.

Two ways to mount an ISO/IMG file in Windows 11

Method 1 of 2

Unmount an ISO/IMG file in Windows 11 via This PC

Step 1: Open File Explorer. On the left pane, click This PC to navigate to This PC.

Step 2: Windows 11 shows the mounted ISO/IMG file as drives. Right-click on the mounted ISO/IMG and then click the Eject option to unmount it.

Unmount an ISO/IMG file in Windows 11

Step 1: Go to File Explorer This PC and then click on the mounted ISO/IMG file (shows as drives).

Step 2: Click the Eject option in the File Explorer toolbar to unmount it immediately.
