The Desktop folder is one of the most important and frequently used locations for saving files and folders.
Most users, in addition to app shortcuts, save documents and other frequently accessed files on the desktop for easy access.
If you also often save crucial files on the Windows 11 desktop, or the desktop folder is consuming a significant amount of space, you might want to consider moving the Desktop folder from the default Windows 11 installation drive to another drive.
There are a few benefits of moving the Desktop folder to another drive. One, moving the Desktop folder from its default location (present on the drive where Windows 11 is installed) frees up space on the Windows 11 installation drive, especially if you have GBs of data in the Desktop folder. Two, moving the Desktop folder to another drive prevents your data in your Desktop folder from getting deleted during Windows 11 reinstallation.
Fortunately, moving the Desktop folder from its default location to another drive is not difficult. Windows 11 offers an easy and straightforward way to move the Desktop folder to a drive of your choice.
