Would you like to remove the password from the PDF file or save a copy of it without the password? Read on to know how to save a copy of the PDF file without the password without using any third-party tools on a Windows 11 PC.
There are multiple ways to remove the password from a PDF file. You can use free or paid third-party tools or a built-in feature in Windows 11.
The Microsoft Print to PDF feature in Windows 11 lets you create a copy of a PDF file without the password. This guide shows you how to remove the password from a PDF file.
NOTE: You cannot use this method to remove the PDF password unless you know the password. Hence, if you have a PDF file whose password you do not know, this guide is not for you.
Remove password from a PDF file in Windows 11
Step 1: Open the File Explorer and navigate to the folder containing the PDF file.
Step 2: Right-click the PDF file, click Open with, and then click Microsoft Edge to open the PDF file in the Edge browser. Please type the PDF password when you see the prompt. Note that you can open it with any other PDF-supported app, like Google Chrome.
Step 3: Once the PDF file is open in the Edge browser, simultaneously press the Ctrl and P keys to open the Print dialog. Alternatively, you may click the printer icon in the Edge toolbar to open the Print dialog.
Step 4: Select the Microsoft Print to PDF option from the Printer drop-down and then click the Print button.
Step 5: Choose a location to save the PDF file without the password, type a name for the PDF file, and then click the Save button to save the PDF file without the password. That’s it!
You may now double-click the newly saved PDF file to open it without typing the password. The PDF file will be opened in the default app. That is, for instance, if you have Adobe Acrobat as the default PDF reader, it will be opened in that app. Please note that the old/original PDF file will still require a password to open it. Only the newly saved PDF file does not have a password.
If you do not need the old/original PDF file, you may delete it or replace it with the newly saved PDF file.
