Link Windows 10 License While Using Local User Account

In this guide, we will see how to link your Windows 10 digital license or digital entitlement to your Microsoft account while using a local user account to Microsoft account.

A large number of Windows 10 users use a local user account instead of a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 10. If you’re one of those users who prefer using the traditional local user account over Microsoft account, you will be glad to know that you can link Windows 10 digital license to Microsoft account without having to migrate your local user account to Microsoft account.

Complete the given below directions to link your Windows 10 license to Microsoft account while using a local user account without having to switch your local user account to Microsoft account.

Guide to link Windows 10 license to Microsoft account when on a local user account

NOTE: Those who are using a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 10 don’t need to do anything to link Windows 10 license. The digital license will be automatically linked to Microsoft account when a Microsoft account is used to sign in to Windows 10.

Step 1: Open the Settings app. There are a couple of ways out there to open the Settings app, but you can easily open the same by clicking its icon in the Start menu.

Step 2: Go to Windows & security > Activation page to see your Windows 10 activation status.

Step 3: Click Add an account.

Step 4: When you are asked to enter your Microsoft account address and password, enter the same and then click the Sign in button.

Next, you might be asked to enter your local user account. If asked, please type your local user account password.

Step 5: That’s it! In a few seconds, you should see “Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account” on the activation page, as shown in the picture below.
