How To Automatically Set Start Screen Background Color As Window Border And Taskbar Color In Windows 8.1

The Start screen in Windows 8.1 has been enhanced with a couple of new features. The Start screen in the newest version of Windows comes with new tile sizes, lets you set desktop wallpaper as Start screen background picture, allows you uninstall multiple apps at once, and more.

Just like its predecessor Windows 8, Windows 8.1 also lets you change the default background color of the Start screen in no time. When you are in the Start screen, move the mouse pointer to upper or lower-right corner to reveal the Charms bar, click Settings, and then click Personalization option to select a new color for the Start screen.

If you frequently change the Start screen background color and want to automatically set the color of the Start screen background as window and taskbar color, here is a handy tool for you.

Our friend at WinAero has just released a new tool named WinAero ColorSync to automatically set Start screen background color as window border and taskbar color.

Download ColorSync zip file (download link available at the end of this article) from developer’s page, extract the zip file to get the executable, and run the application (it’s portable, doesn’t require an installation) to automatically update window border and taskbar color whenever you change the Start screen color.

Note that Windows might show you “Windows SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from running Starting” message when you attempt to launch the program. Simply click More info option and then click Run anyway button to continue using the app.

When the application is running, a small icon sits in the system tray area. You can right-click on this tray icon to access launch this tool with Windows, and hide tray icon options.

Note that this application might not be useful if you have configured Windows 8.1 to use desktop background as Start screen background. While there is no doubt that it’s a handy tool for many Windows 8.1 users, an option to automatically set window border color as Start screen background color would have made this program even more useful.
