Sometime back, with version 4.1x, Piriform introduced active monitoring feature in its popular product CCleaner. The active monitoring feature continuously runs in the background and displays notifications on the screen.
With default settings, active monitoring system sends out notifications when cleaning junk files can save more than 500 MB. While this limit can be changed under CCleaner Options, the option is not present in the free version and one needs to upgrade to the Pro version of the software to be able to change CCleaner monitoring options. The Pro version of CCleaner comes with browser monitoring feature as well.
While the active monitoring is a great feature and is an easy way to clean up junk files, at times it gets annoying when it shows notifications on regular intervals. While a lot of people love this active monitoring feature, an equal amount of users who prefer the manual cleaning want to turn off or disable the feature.
If you feel that the active monitoring feature is not necessary, you can easily disable the feature. Follow the given below instructions to disable system and active monitoring in CCleaner.
Turn off CCleaner’s active monitoring
Step 1: Open CCleaner main window.
Step 2: In the left-pane of CCleaner, click Options.
Step 3: On the right-side, click on Monitoring tab to see Monitoring settings.
Step 4: Here, uncheck options labelled Enable system monitoring and then uncheck Enable Active Monitoring. Note that it’s impossible to disable active monitoring without disabling system monitoring.
Finally, click Yes button when you see the confirmation dialog. That’s it!
And if you want to simply disable all notifications from CCleaner, here is how to do it.
Disable all notifications from CCleaner
Step 1: Click the small Up arrow icon located on the right-side of the taskbar (see below picture).
Step 2: Click on the Customize link to open Notifications Area Icons window.
Step 3: Here, look for CCleaner entry and select Hide icon and notifications from the drop-down menu next to it.
Step 4: Finally, click OK button. That’s all! From now onwards, CCleaner will not show notifications on the screen.

The ability to disable monitoring is not in version 6.15. How to do this now? When I need to temporarily disable things like CC and virus checkers.

I like CCCleaner. On top of it, it’s hard to beat the price of the free version. If you don’t like CCCleaner sitting in your Taskbar, put Task into your W10 search window. Then open the Task Manager > click Startup tab. Find item CCCleaner, go to Status & disable it. It will not start any more.

Ive been using CCleaner for a few years, I had Version %.36 installed only to find that after Avast purchased CCleaner, CCleaner on my computer was updated to version 5.45 without my consent and i hated the changes as well as the fact i later found out that AVast antivirus had also been installed without my consent.. I was pissed Off and Reinstalled Version 5.36.. as this was the version i was using before Avast ruined CCleaner and turned it to shit.
This is what i did,..
After Downloading CCleaner 5.36
I disconnected from internet ( turned off modem/router)
installed CCleaner
Run through CCleaner Options and Tools and disabled Active Monitoring and also removed all saved Cookies.
In CCleaner Tools/Startup.. I Disabled ccleaner under Scheduled Tasks. from starting up and running when windows reboots.
Closed CCleaner.
Went into Windows Conrtrol Panel Options “Scheduled Tasks”
Control Panel, System and security, schedule tasks..
and disabled ccleaner from running and starting up when windows turns on ore when i reboot computer.
Deleted CCleaner Update File
from
Windows.. Computer/Local Disk/ Program files/ CCleaner
And then
Turned on Internet and Rebooted Computer..
CCLeaner no longer updates to latest version as well as Active monitoring is now fully disabled
I’m back to using version 5.36 and couldn’t be happier, no longer have to worry about Avast auto updating & active monitoring and i will not update to any other version as 5.36 works great and does everything i need it to do. If it aint broke it doesn’t need fixing
Good Luck to you all.

I have tried everything to get rid of this monitoring. But on startup it STILL somehow manages to reinstall itself!
I have used Ccleaner for many years but now really loathe this insidious “active monitoring” feature!

Nothing stops that hawfull monitoring, even by deleting entries. This program version recreates them at both every starting up of the computer and the program. And it’s avalaible both CCleaner Free and CCleaner Pro. So, the only solution is deleting CCleaner itself. So I will do so.

The ccleaner stays in background when the application is closed even with system and active monitoring disabled. This is a shame. I would recommend disabling “run ccleaner when computer starts” and “inform me of updates to ccleaner”, then all update.
The solution in this article only prevent ccleaner from popping out of its limbo. The solution I offer is not opening the pandora’s box on startup, then kill this ccleaner after use.
After use, I do CTRL+ALT+DEL then terminate the ccleaner process.

The instructions DO NOT WORK!
Step 4: Here, uncheck options labelled Enable system monitoring and then uncheck Enable Active Monitoring. Note that it’s impossible to disable active monitoring without disabling system monitoring.
