The Firefox web browser for Windows now allows you to back up and restore your data, such as saved passwords, payment methods, bookmarks, browsing history, and settings, to an encrypted file so that you can restore it whenever you want.
The Firefox backup and restore feature comes in handy when you want to move your Firefox data to a new computer or restore Firefox data after reinstalling the Windows operating system. The feature lets you save all your Firefox data into an encrypted file and restore it whenever you need.
This guide shows you how to restore the Firefox browser on a Windows 10/11 PC from a backup file.
Restore Firefox data from a previous backup file in Windows 11/10
Step 1: Launch the Firefox browser, if it’s not running already.
Step 2: Click the hamburger icon and then click Settings to open the Firefox Settings page.
Step 3: Here, in the left pane, click Sync.
Step 4: On this page, in the Backup section, click the Restore button next to Restore your data.
Step 5: In the resulting Restore your data dialog box, click the Browse button, navigate to the location containing the Firefox backup file, select the file, and then click the Open button.
Step 6: If Firefox’s backup file is encrypted, you will be prompted to enter the password for the same. The same dialog also displays the date and time of the currently selected backup file, as well as the location where Firefox will be restored. If you need to restore Firefox to a different date, click the Browse button again and then select the correct backup file.
Type the password, and click the Restore and restart button to restore the data and restart Firefox. That’s it!

Restore the Firefox from a backup file while installing Firefox in Windows 11/10
The Firefox browser offers an option to restore it from a previously created backup file during its installation only if it finds a backup copy on your PC. If this option does not show up, you may use the method mentioned above (Method 1) to restore Firefox.
Step 1: During the Firefox installation, when you get the following screen, type the password for the backup file and then click the Restore and restart button to restore Firefox from the selected backup file.
If more than one backup file is available, click the Choose button and then select the Firefox backup file that you would like to use to restore.
