The dark mode is a boon for computer users, particularly those who work at night or in a low-lit room. Therefore, if you use your PC in a dark room or at night, you should immediately enable the dark mode to reduce eyestrain.
By default, the light mode or light theme is enabled in Windows 11 Home and Pro editions. However, you can switch to dark mode with a few clicks.
The dark mode theme available in Windows 11 makes it easier to quickly shift nearly all visual elements on the screen to dark grays and black.
You just need to apply the dark mode theme to make almost everything on the screen go black. The taskbar and Start menu, File Explorer, Settings, context menus, Quick Settings, notifications center, and most in-house apps like Mail, Calculator, and Photos, support the dark mode.
However, a few visual elements will continue to ignore the dark mode because they are not available in dark mode. For instance, the classic Control Panel will continue to use the default white background even when the dark mode is turned on. The same is the case with Notepad and WordPad apps as well. Nevertheless, most visual elements will wear a black color, making your eyes job a lot easier.
Here are the three easy ways to enable the dark mode in Windows 11.
Method 1 of 3
Enable dark mode or theme in Windows 11
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: On the left side of Settings, click Personalization. On the right side, click Themes.
Step 3: Finally, click on the Windows (dark) theme to turn on the dark mode.
To exit the dark mode, click on any other theme.
Method 2 of 3
Enable or disable dark mode via Settings in Windows 11
Step 1: Perform a right-click on an empty spot on the desktop and click the Personalize option to open the Settings > Personalization page.
Step 2: On the right side, in the Select a theme section, click on the Windows (dark) theme to apply the dark mode. If you cannot see the Windows (dark) theme, follow the directions in Method 1 or Method 3.
To enable the light mode again, apply any other theme.
Method 3 of 3
Enable or disable dark theme via File Explorer
Step 1: Open the File Explorer. In the address bar, copy and paste the following path and hit the Enter key to open the Themes folder.
C:\Windows\Resources\Themes
In the above path, replace “C” with the drive letter of the drive where Windows 11 is installed.
Step 2: As you can see, the Themes folder lists all in-house themes, including the Dark theme. Click on the Dark theme to apply the dark mode.
