Several operations can only be done by executing a command in the elevated Command Prompt. For instance, we need the Command Prompt to enable or disable the hibernation feature on a Windows 11 PC.
So, Windows 11 users often need to run the Command Prompt as administrator.
The following are the six easy ways to run Command Prompt as an administrator on a Windows 11 PC.
NOTE: If are using a standard user account, you will have to type the administrator password to launch Command Prompt as administrator. Refer to our check if you have administrator rights in Windows 11 guide to know if you are using a standard or admin user account.
Method 1 of 6
Open Command Prompt as administrator via search in Windows 11
Step 1: In the Start menu search field or taskbar search box, type CMD to see the Command Prompt entry in the search results.
Step 2: Right-click the Command Prompt entry in the search results, and then click the “Run as administrator” option.
Step 3: Click the Yes button when you see the User Account Control prompt to launch Command Prompt as administrator. If asked for the admin password, please type the same.

Another way to open Command Prompt as an administrator through search in Windows 11
Step 1: Type CMD in the Start menu search bar or taskbar search bar.
Step 2: The search panel will now show Command Prompt’s entry.
Step 3: Click the Run as administrator option on the right side.
Step 4: Finally, click the Yes button when you get the “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?” prompt to run Command Prompt as administrator.

Keyboard shortcut to open Command Prompt as administrator in Windows 11
Step 1: Press the Windows logo + S keys to open the search panel.
Step 2: Type CMD to see the Command Prompt in the results.
Step 3: Simultaneously press Ctrl, Shift, and Enter (Ctrl + Shift + Enter) keys.
Step 4: Lastly, click the Yes button when you get the confirmation prompt to launch Command Prompt as administrator.

Run Command Prompt as administrator via the Run command dialog in Windows 11
Step 1: Simultaneously press the Windows logo and R keys to open the Run dialog box. You can also right-click the Windows logo button and then click the Run option to open the same.
Step 2: Type CMD in the Run dialog box.
Step 3: Simultaneously press Ctrl, Shift, and Enter (Ctrl + Shift + Enter) keys.
Step 4: When you get the User Account Control prompt, click the Yes button. That’s it!

Open Command Prompt as administrator from Task Manager in Windows 11
Step 1: Perform a right-click on an empty spot on the taskbar and then click Task Manager to open it.
Tip: You can also use Ctrl + Shift + Esc keyboard shortcut to open Task Manager.
Step 2: Under the Processes tab, click the Run new task button.
Step 3: Finally, type CMD.exe in the box, select the “Create this task with administrator privileges” option, and then click the OK button to run Command Prompt as administrator.

Open Command Prompt as administrator from File Explorer in Windows 11
Step 1: Open the File Explorer and navigate to:
C:\Windows\System32
In the above path, “C” is the drive where Windows 11 is installed. If Windows 11 is installed on, for example, drive “D”, you need to navigate to D:\Windows\System32 folder.
Step 2: Look for the CMD (.exe) file. Right-click the CMD file and then click the Run as administrator option.
Step 3: Click the Yes button when you get the User Account Control prompt to open Command Prompt as administrator.
