6 Ways To Restart A Windows 11 PC

One of the best things about the Windows operating system is that it offers multiple ways to perform a single job. For instance, there are multiple ways to restart your PC running Windows 11.

The following are six easy ways to restart your Windows 11 PC.

IMPORTANT: Save your work and close all open apps/programs before initiating a system reboot.

Method 1 of 6

Restart Windows 11 PC from the Start menu

Step 1: Open the Start menu by pressing the Windows logo key on the keyboard or clicking the Windows logo button on the taskbar.

Step 2: Click the power icon and then click the Restart option.

Method 2 of 6

Step 1: Right-click the Windows logo icon on the taskbar to open the Power User menu, click Shut down or restart, and then click Restart.

In addition to the standard Restart option, Windows 11 also shows a Restart and update option if a reboot is pending to install updates. You may click on it to restart your PC and install updates but it might take a few more minutes to complete the restart.

Method 3 of 6

Restart Windows 11 PC from Command Prompt or PowerShell

Did you know you can initiate a system reboot even from the Command Prompt? Yes, here is how to do that.

Step 1: Save your work and close all running programs.

Step 2: Open the Command Prompt.

Step 3: Type shutdown /r and then hit the Enter key.

Step 4: Windows 11 displays a “You’re about to be signed out” message. Windows 11 will restart your PC in 60 seconds. All running or open programs will be terminated automatically.

Method 4 of 6

Restart Windows 11 PC from the Alt + F4 dialog

Step 1: Minimize all open apps and File Explorer windows. You can use Windows logo + D keyboard shortcuts to quickly minimize all apps and windows.

Step 2: Simultaneously press the Alt and F4 keys to open the Shut down Windows dialog. Note that if you press the Alt and F4 keys when an app or File Explorer window is open, the app or File Explorer window will be closed instead.

Step 3: Select the Restart option from the drop-down menu and then click the OK button. Your Windows 11 PC will restart.

 

Method 5 of 6

Restart Windows 11 PC from the Sign-in screen or Lock screen

Step 1: If you are on the lock screen, press the Enter key or click on the lock screen to see the sign-in screen. If you are already on the sign-in screen, skip this step.

Step 2: The power icon is displayed at the bottom right corner of the sign-in screen. Click on it and then the Restart option to reboot your Windows 11 PC.

Method 6 of 6

Restart Windows 11 PC from the Ctrl + Alt + Delete screen

Step 1: Simultaneously press Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys to open the Ctrl + Alt + Del screen.

Step 2: The bottom right corner of the screen shows a power button. You need to click that power button and then the Restart option.
