8 Ways To Open Microsoft Edge In Windows 11

Microsoft Edge is one of the inbox apps in Windows 11. The Edge browser, now based on the Chromium open-source project, which also powers the popular Chrome browser, is the default web browser in Windows 11.

A good number of Windows 11 users prefer the Edge browser over others for various reasons. If you also use Edge as your primary browser, you might want to know all the ways out there to launch Microsoft Edge on a Windows 11 PC.

The following are the eight ways to open the Edge browser in Windows 11.

Method 1 of 8

Launch Edge from the Start menu or taskbar search in Windows 11

Step 1: In the Start menu search field or taskbar search box, type ‘Edge’ and then hit the Enter key to open the Edge browser.

Open the Microsoft Edge browser from the taskbar in Windows 11

Step 1: Click the Microsoft Edge icon in the taskbar to run the Edge browser.

If the Edge browser does not appear in the taskbar (when not running), launch Edge using search, right-click the Edge icon in the taskbar, and then click the ‘Pin to taskbar’ option.

Method 3 of 8

Launch the Edge browser from the Run command dialog in Windows 11

Step 1: Open the Run dialog by right-clicking the Windows logo icon on the taskbar and then clicking the ‘Run’ option. Alternatively, you can use Windows logo + R keyboard shortcut.

Step 2: Type ‘msedge’ or ‘msedge.exe’ and then click the OK button to launch the Edge browser.

Launch the Edge browser from the Task Manager in Windows 11

Step 1: Open the Task Manager if it is not running already.

Step 2: Click the ‘Run new task’ button in the toolbar to open the ‘Create new task’ dialog.

Step 3: Here, type ‘msedge’ and then press the Enter key or click the ‘OK’ button.

Open Microsoft Edge from the File Explorer in Windows 11

Step 1: Open This PC or any other folder.

Step 2: Type ‘msedge’ in the File Explorer address bar and then press the Enter key to open the Edge browser.

Open Edge browser from Command Prompt or PowerShell in Windows 11

Step 1: Use the search to open Command Prompt or PowerShell. No need to launch as an administrator.

Step 2: Type ‘start msedge’ and then hit the Enter key to open the Edge browser instantly.

Another method to launch the Edge browser from the File Explorer in Windows 11

Step 1: Open File Explorer and navigate to This PC.

Step 2: Double-click the drive where Windows 11 is installed. If you do not know, the Windows 11 drive is generally indicated by a Windows logo on the drive icon.

Step 3: Double-click the ‘Program Files (x86)’ folder and then double-click the ‘Microsoft’ folder.

Step 4: Find the ‘Edge’ folder and then double-click on it to see all files and sub-folders under it.

Step 5: Finally, double-click the ‘Application’ folder to see the ‘msedge’ or ‘msedge.exe’ (.exe appears only if the File Explorer is configured to show file extensions) file. Double-click the file to open the Edge browser.

Run the Edge browser from the desktop in Windows 11

Step 2: Double-click the Edge shortcut icon on the desktop to launch it.
