How To Change Registered Owner And Organization Name In Windows 7

As you may know, the name of the owner and organization that Windows is registered to can been viewed by launching About Windows, a simple dialog box that can be opened by typing winver.exe in Start menu search area and hitting enter key.

Now, if you have purchased a used PC and want to replace the existing name of the owner and organization with your name, you can do that with a small registry tweak. Of course, you can also do this using free programs such as Set Owner (scroll down to check the review).

If you are looking for a manual way to do change owner and organization name, follow the below mentioned steps.

Method 1:

Step 1: Type regedit in Start menu search box and hit enter to launch Registry Editor. Click Yes if you are prompted with a UAC prompt.

Step 2: In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Step 3: In the right-pane, double-click on RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization entries to change them.

Step 4: Now, open the About Windows dialog-box to see the new registered owner and organization name.

Method 2:

If for any reason, you don’t manually edit the Registry and prefer to use a software instead, here is a tiny tool to do the task with ease.

Set Owner is a small application for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 to change the previously registered Owner and Organization name. Simply download, extract and run this tool to start changing Owner name.

And if you have no idea about how to check the registered Owner and Organization name in Windows, type winver.exe in Start menu search field and then hit enter key. Note that if your simply run Set Owner tool you might get “failed to set data” error. So don’t forget to run this tool as administrator (right-click on the tool and then select Run as administrator).
