How To Make Google Chrome As Default Browser In Windows 11

It’s a well-known fact that Google Chrome is the king of web browsers. With over 70% market share, it’s easily the most used web browser on computers.

Microsoft has been eying to regain the market share with the Chromium-based Edge browser. As a result, Microsoft Edge is the default web browser in Windows 11, and uninstalling Edge from Windows 11 is not easy well.

If you are a Chrome lover for whatever reason, you might want to set Chrome as the default browser once you upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Unfortunately, changing the default browser in Windows 11 is not a straightforward job.

When you try to set Chrome as the default from within the Chrome browser, it does nothing but opens the Settings > Apps > Default apps page. So, setting Chrome as default or changing the web browser requires some effort in Windows 11.

This guide will tell you how to set Google Chrome as the default browser in Windows 11.

NOTE: We assume that you have already installed Chrome on your Windows 11 PC. If not, please download and install the Google Chrome browser before following these steps.

Method 1 of 2

Set Google Chrome default browser in Windows 11

Step 1: Open the Settings app. On the left pane, click Apps.

Step 2: On the right side, click on Default apps to see a list of installed apps.

Step 3: Here, locate the Google Chrome entry and click on the same.

Step 4: The resulting page displays all the file types for which Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or any other browser is the default.

To Chrome as the default browser, you need to set the Chrome as default for .htm, .html, .pdf, .webp, HTTP, and HTTPS file types.

To change the default, click on a file type, select Google Chrome from the list, and click the OK button. Note that you need to repeat this step for the file types mentioned above. It should not take more than a few minutes to set Chrome as your default browser.

Method 2 of 2

Another way to set Chrome as default in Windows 11

Step 1: Go to Windows 11 Settings > Apps > Default apps page.

Step 2: In the Set default for a file type or link type search box, search for htm, .html, .pdf, .webp, HTTP, and HTTPS (one after another), click on the entry, and then click on the Google Chrome entry in the list to set Chrome as default. Simple!
