Windows 11 ships with the Edge browser, and it is the default browser in Windows 11. Based on Chromium, the Edge browser is now faster and safer than ever. However, some users love to use other web browsers, such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
While Microsoft Edge is on par with other browsers, most users prefer Chrome over other web browsers. If you like a browser other than Edge, you can install a browser of your choice in Windows 11. But what if you want to completely remove Edge from your Windows 11 computer before installing a browser of your choice?
In Windows 11, most default apps can be uninstalled by navigating to the Settings > Apps > Default apps page. However, the page does not display an uninstall option for the Edge browser.
As a result, we cannot use the Settings app to remove Edge. Luckily, we can use PowerShell and a third-party software called Edge Remover to completely uninstall Edge from Windows 11 by executing two simple commands.
Please note that you can uninstall and remove Edge Insider builds from Windows 10/11 from the Settings app.
Method 1 of 3
Uninstall Edge from Windows 11 via PowerShell
IMPORTANT: If you have saved passwords, bookmarks, or any other data in the Edge browser, we recommend you export those data to any different browser before uninstalling Edge.
Step 1: Close the Edge browser, if it’s running.
Step 2: Open Windows PowerShell as administrator. To do that, search for PowerShell, right-click on the PowerShell entry in the search result, and then click the Run as administrator option.
Click the Yes button when you see the User Account Control prompt.
Step 3: At the PowerShell window, copy and paste the following command:
Remove-appxpackage Microsoft.MicrosoftEdgeDevToolsClient_1000.22621.1.0_neutral_neutral_8wekyb3d8bbwe
Press the Enter key to execute the command, which uninstalls and removes Microsoft Edge from Windows 10/11 installation.
If you are unable to uninstall Edge via this method, follow the methods given below.
Method 2 of 3
Uninstall and remove Microsoft Edge using the Edge Remover tool in Windows 11
Edge Remover is a small piece of software developed to uninstall and remove the Microsoft Edge browser from Windows 10 and Windows 11 installations.
Uninstalling Edge with the Edge Remover tool is easy. Download and run the software. It will automatically uninstall and remove Edge in a few seconds.
Method 3 of 3
Another way to uninstall Edge from Windows 10/11 via PowerShell
IMPORTANT: Please close the Edge browser before executing these steps.
Step 1: Run PowerShell as administrator.
Step 2: At the PowerShell window, copy and paste the following command.
get-appxpackage *edge*
Press the Enter key.
Step 3: Once you press the Enter key, the PowerShell will show detailed information about the Edge installation. Here, you need to find and copy the PackageFullName of Edge by selecting the entry next to the PackageFullName (refer to the picture below) and then using Ctrl + C hotkey to copy it.
Step 4: Finally, you need to execute this command to uninstall and remove Edge.
Remove-appxpackage <PackageFullName>
In the above command, you need to replace <PackageFullName> with the PackageFullName of the Edge browser that you got in the previous step. Once the job is done, you may exit the PowerShell window.
Install Edge again in Windows 11
If you ever want to install the Edge browser again, it’s easy as well.
Step 1: Visit this official Edge page and download the latest version.
Step 2: Run the setup file and follow the on-screen directions to complete the installation.

Forgot to mention that I ran the Remove.Edge.ps1 script as well, but that didn’t work either.

No problem with cut & paste other users say they can’t do, but the command to remove, in my particular case: “Remove-appxpackage Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge.Stable_119.0.2151.58_neutral__8wekyb3d8bbwe” (without quotes) runs but a message flashes up briefly in the elevated PowerShell window which is too quick to read after which the prompt returns and Edge remains in place.
The best users can do at the moment is to go to Edge settings and disable everything this abhorrent piece of spyware collects and sends to Microsoft.
Oh and for the benefit of other users, after highlighting the package hit Ctrl + C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste.

Did not work. Could not cut and paste the new info.

I agree, Microshite should be ashamed of imposing Edge on Users. It pervades my machine and seems to interfere with my prefered browser. One would like to think that user preferences of app software would be a priority but just like Macintosch there are hidden but revenue gathering chunks of software embedded to annoy customers. Sod them.

These methods do not work…no effect!!!!!

Method 1 no success.
Method 2 Step5 brings up the following Error message:
‘setup.exe’ is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
I am now stuck.

Works perfectly but one of the side effects is that you can no longer use Facecbook app

“X86 : The term ‘X86’ is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program.”
Any other way to get rid of Edge?

In my Windows 11 Pro Intel Gen 11 Edge was overwhelmingly planting a virus worm deep inside the Chrome Browser files, and Audio files, making them dysfunctional as if to take over full control of the desktop PC. After uninstalling Chrome to see what was wrong I discovered the worm inside Program files a flashing blank page “Edge cannot be found on this computer” or something to the effect. Then on updates Edge repeatedly reinstalls itself and does the same planting of a “worm” in select folders forcing control of the OS. Microsoft seems to perform as if they now own our computers, older OS even in Windows 10 on reinstallations often simply refused at installing points, many times until I had to go to Linux they command way too much control/ownership of a personal computer.

The instruction to uninstall Edge after you adminstrator CMD has be executed and the next step the command prompt of cd %etc – etc which give one the Prompt for the last entry which is > setup.exe -uninstall -force-uninstall -system-level – I have tried many times and this entry isn’t working to uninstall Microsoft Edge – give me an alternative option! Hello!
Jeff Flanagan says
It appears that Windows 11 does not support a paste function at the command prompt, so I manually typed in the command shown above. When double checking my entry, I noticed that “Microsoft” was spelled “Miicrosoft” and I WAS NOT ABLE TO CORRECT THE SPELLING! The second “i” could not be removed. It seems Microsoft has closed this loophole. Any other suggestions? I really want Edge removed from my new computer.

I can see how to do any of these tasks. I know nothing about how these things work. Windows 11 was just installed and I MUST uninstall Edge. This is impossible because you apparently suppose I know what you are talking about.
I HAVZE NO CLUE. I can’t use my laptop which just cost me a ton o money.
