How To Disable Touchpad In Windows 11

Do you not want to use the touchpad/trackpad on your Windows 10/11 laptop? Want to temporarily or permanently disable the trackpad/touchpad in Windows 10/11? This guide will show you how to disable the trackpad/touchpad in Windows 10/11 easily.

Method 1 of 4

Disable the touchpad via Settings in Windows 10

Step 1: Open the Settings app. Go to Devices > Touchpad page. On Windows 11, Go to Bluetooth and devices > Touchpad page.

Step 2: Here, turn off the Touchpad option to turn off the touchpad immediately.

Method 2 of 4

Disable the touchpad only when the mouse is connected in Windows 10/11

Use this method if you want Windows to automatically disable the touchpad only when a mouse is connected to your laptop.

Step 1: On Windows 10, go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad page. On Windows 11, go to Bluetooth and devices > Touchpad page.

Step 2: Turn off the Leave touchpad on when the mouse is connected option to force Windows to disable the touchpad only when a mouse is connected. The touchpad will be enabled again when you disconnect the mouse.

Method 3 of 4

Disable Windows 10/11 touchpad via Device Manager

Step 1: Right-click the Start button and then click the Device Manager option to open the same.

Step 2: Expand the Mouse and other pointing devices tree to see your touchpad’s entry. Note that you might see multiple entries here, and you have to figure out which entry belongs to your touchpad. Most laptops use Synaptics touchpad. If that is the case, Synaptics pointing device entry is your touchpad’s entry.

Step 3: Right-click on the touchpad’s entry and click the Disable device option.

Step 4: Click on the Yes button when you see the confirmation prompt to disable the touchpad.

To enable the touchpad again, you need to right-click on the touchpad entry again and then click the Enable device option.

Method 4 of 4

Disable the touchpad by uninstalling the driver

You can disable any device by uninstalling its driver. Here is how to uninstall the touchpad’s driver to disable it.

Step 1: Open the Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and then clicking the Device Manager option.

Step 2: In the Device Manager, expand the Mice and other pointing devices tree to see the touchpad’s entry.

Step 3: Right-click on the touchpad’s entry and then click the Uninstall device option.

Step 4: Next, select the Delete the driver software for this device checkbox and then click the Uninstall button.

Note that Windows will automatically install the touchpad driver via the Windows Update service unless you have disabled it.
