How To Quickly Restore Most Recently Deleted Files In Windows 11

Last Updated on October 4, 2024 by admin Leave a Comment

Windows is a fantastic operating system with hundreds of features and options. While some features are well-known and used frequently, several are not known to most users.

As you might already know, by default, Windows moves all deleted files to the Recycle Bin unless you use Shift + Delete keys to bypass the Recycle Bin. So, generally, users open the Recycle Bin to view deleted files and restore them if required.

Did you know that Windows 11 and earlier versions offer an option to quickly restore the most recently deleted files without opening the Recycle Bin? Yes, you do not need to access the Recycle Bin to restore the most recently deleted files.

The feature is helpful, especially when you accidentally delete files and want to restore them quickly. Here is how.

Restore most recently deleted files in Windows 11/10 quickly

Step 1: When file(s) are deleted from a folder, right-click on an empty spot on the folder and then click the Undo delete option to restore the deleted file quickly.

You may need to hit the F5 key to refresh the list and see the restored files.

Step 1: To restore the most recently deleted file(s), minimize all running apps (use Windows + D), and then simultaneously press the Ctrl and Z keys (Undo).

Alternatively, when the File Explorer window is open, you can use the same Ctrl + Z hotkey to restore the most recently deleted files.

Step 2: Now, navigate to the folder from where you had deleted files to see the restored file(s). If you cannot see the restored file(s), press the F5 key once to refresh the files list and see the file(s).

Tip: To avoid accidentally deleting files, we suggest you turn on the delete confirmation dialog which asks your permission every time you attempt to delete files.
