Often, we want to print only select pages of a document, but forget to select them before clicking the Print button, which automatically prints all pages of the document unless we pause the print. There are many instances where you might want to pause a printing job.
Windows 11 offers multiple options to pause a print job. The following are the five ways to pause printing in Windows 11.
Method 1 of 5
Pause printing from the taskbar in Windows 11
Step 1: Click the printer icon in the system tray area of the taskbar to open the Print queue window.
Step 2: Here, right-click the document entry and then click the Pause option to pause printing. If multiple documents are there, click the three dots in the top right and then click the Pause all option.
If you get the classic Print Queue window, click the Printer menu and then click the Pause Printing option to pause printing.
To resume printing again, right-click the document entry and then click the Resume option.

Quickly pause printing job in Windows 11
Step 1: The first step is to create a printer shortcut icon on the desktop. Refer to our how to make a printer shortcut on the Windows 11 desktop guide for step-by-step directions.
Step 2: To pause a print job, double-click the printer icon on the desktop to open the Print Queue window.
Step 3: Click the Printer menu and then click the Pause Printing option to pause the print job. If you have a specific document in the print queue that you want to pause printing, right-click it and then click the Pause option.

Pause printing via the Control Panel in Windows 11
Step 1: Open the Settings app. Go to Bluetooth & devices > Printers & Scanners page.
Step 2: Click the printer’s entry that you want to pause to open its properties page.
Step 3: Click Open print queue to open the Print queue window.
Step 4: Right click the three dots in the upper right and then click Pause all or right-click the document entry and then click the Pause option.
If you get the classic Print Queue window, click the Printer menu and then click the Pause Printing option to pause the printing. If you have several print jobs running, right-click the document entry you want to pause printing, then click the Pause option.

Pause printing by stopping the Print Spooler service in Windows 11
Many Windows users often complain that the above-mentioned methods fail to pause a print job. If you are encountering the same issue, this method will pause the print job without fail.
Step 1: Type services.msc in the Start menu or taskbar search bar and then press the Enter key to open the Services window.
Step 2: Find the Print Spooler entry. Right-click the entry, then click Stop to stop the printing immediately.
Method 5 of 5
Pause printing via Command Prompt or PowerShell in Windows 11
Step 1: Open Windows PowerShell or Command Prompt as an administrator.
Step 2: Type net stop spooler in the Command Prompt window, or stop-service spooler at the PowerShell window, and then press the Enter key to stop the print spooler service, which in turn stops the printing job.
To resume printing, type net start spooler (at the Command Prompt) or start-service spooler (at the PowerShell window) before pressing the Enter key.
