Windows 11 has been displaying widgets on the lock screen for a few years now. While most users don’t find lock screen widgets helpful, some do and make the most of them.
With default installation settings, Windows 11 shows weather and a few other widgets on the lock screen. Users who don’t want to see widgets can remove all widgets from the lock screen using a built-in option in the Settings app. If you want widgets but not the default ones, you can replace the current widgets with new ones that you find helpful.
Please note that Windows 11 displays a maximum of four widgets on the lock screen. If you already have four active widgets, the newly added widget will replace the current widget at the far right of the screen.
This guide shows you how to change the lock screen widgets on a Windows 11 PC.
Change Windows 11 lock screen widgets
Step 1: Open the Windows 11 Settings app using search or the Windows logo + I keyboard shortcut.
Step 2: On the left pane of the Settings app, click Personalization.
Step 3: Now, on the right side, look for Lock screen and then click the same.
Step 4: Scroll down to see the Widgets section. Click on the same to see currently active widgets.
Step 5: To add a new widget, click the Add Widget button. This will open the Add Widget dialog. And if the Add Widget button is grayed out, it’s likely because you have the maximum allowed widgets selected. Please click the three dots next to the widget that you want to remove and then click the Remove option. This should activate the Add widget button.
Step 6: Here, you can select a Widget type on the left pane and then click the Add Widget button on the right side to add the selected widget.
Step 7: Once added, close the Add Widget dialog to return to Windows 11 Settings > Personalization > Lock screen. Here, you can move widgets up or down the list by clicking the six dots next to the widget, then dragging it to the desired place.
