Use Photos app to add 3D effects to pictures in Windows 10
In this guide, we will see how to add 3D effects to pictures in Windows 10 using the built-in Photo app.
Step 1: Open the picture file you would like to add 3D effects for with Photos app.
Step 2: Once the picture file is open in Photos app, click Edit & Create option in the toolbar and then click Add 3D effects option in the resulting drop-down menu. If the Add 3D effects option doesn’t show up in the menu, it’s likely because you are running an older version of Photos app and Windows 10 build. Upgrade Windows 10 to the latest version to get the feature.
Step 3: Clicking Add 3D effects option opens 3D effects editor present in the Photos app.
On the right-side, under the Effects tab, you can see available 3D effects, a search box which you can use to quickly find 3D effects.
The Edit tab shows all applied 3D effects. You can see applied 3D effects and remove one if you want to. The 3D library tab allows you to view and download more 3D effects (there are hundreds of cool 3D effects). You might need to sign-in with your Microsoft account for this though.
If you don’t like any of the 3D effects offered under Effects tab, you can find over 100 awesome looking 3D effects under 3D library.
Step 4: To add a 3D effect, click on it, select the “start of effect” and “end of effect” time on the picture with the help of the slider. You can also adjust the height and width of the 3D effect. You can apply the 3D effect either to a portion of the picture or the entire area of the picture. Rotate the 3D effect using given controls.
With default settings, all 3D effects add their own background sound. If you want, you can reduce the volume or mute it.
Note that you can add more than one 3D effects to a picture.
As you can see in the picture, some 3D effects offer more than one type of animations.
Step 5: As said earlier, you cannot save the picture file with 3D effects in JPEG, PNG or any other image formats. You need to save it in MP4 format only.
To save your work, click the Done button. Select a location to save your new file, enter a name for it and then click Save button to save it with MP4 extension.
Note that the Photos app might take few minutes to save your creation.
After saving the file, the Photos app will automatically open your creation.
When an image background is transparent and you add a 3D effect, it defaults the background to black. How do i keep it transparent?!
