The Start screen in Windows 8 do a heck of a lot more than simply launching apps. For instance, one can get live information with the help of live tiles, pin webpages, folders, and drives for the quick access, search for programs, files, and settings.

The Start screen is highly-customizable too. One can change the background color, set a custom picture as Start screen background, open Start screen within the desktop, and create custom tiles on Start screen to launch files and programs.

Users can configure the Start screen to display weather, Twitter, calendar and other information with the help of live tiles. But unfortunately one can’t configure Windows 8 to display time on the Start screen. Because of this, users need to switch to the desktop mode to view the time.

A few months ago, we showed you a workaround to display clock on the Start screen with the help of an app named Windows 8 Clock. The method requires installing Visual Studio 11 Express and the overall procedure is tedious as well.

Fortunately, a new app available in the Store resolves this problem. Clock Tile is a tiny app for Windows 8 to display time on the Start screen.  The app is useful for users who want to see time on the Start screen.

While the Clock Tile is the only app available in the Store to display time on Start screen and does its job pretty well, it doesn’t include options to customize the look of the tile and clock style. Another downside is that date and time appear on a small area of the large tile.

Users who can’t wait for an update to Clock Tile can visit the Store to install the app. When you launch the app for the first time, it will ask for your permission to run in the background. Please note that the app needn’t to be running in the background to display date and time on the tile.
