With default installation settings, all web browsers installed on Windows 11 PCs save downloaded files to the Downloads folder. Because of this, the Downloads folder is one of the most frequently accessed locations on a Windows 11 PC.
While there are several ways to open the Downloads folder, users who need to access it frequently to view recently downloaded files might want to add it to the Start menu so they can access it faster and more easily.
Yes, Windows 11 lets you add some of the commonly accessed areas of the operating system to the Start menu for quick and easy access. You can add Settings, File Explorer, Documents, Pictures, Downloads, Music, Videos, and the Personal folder to the Start menu. When added, these locations appear at the bottom area of the Start menu and can be accessed with a click.
This guide shows you how to pin the Downloads folder to the Windows 11 Start menu.
Pin the Downloads folder to the Windows 11 Start menu
Step 1: Open the Start menu.
Step 2: Right-click an empty spot, then click Start settings to open the Start menu settings page. Alternatively, you can navigate to the Windows 11 Settings app > Personalize > Start page.
Step 3: Here, in the Other section, click on Folders.
Step 4: Turn on the toggle button next to the Downloads option to pin the Downloads folder to the Start menu. As you can see, Windows 11 also lets you add other important folders such as Pictures, Music, and Documents to the Start menu.
The Downloads folder should now appear at the bottom of the Start menu, but you will only see a down-arrow icon instead of “Downloads” text. Perform a click on it to open the Downloads folder immediately.
