How To Add The Lock Option To Start & Taskbar In Windows 10

In our previous article, we talked about the various ways out there to access the Lock PC option in Windows 10. In this guide, we will show you how to add the Lock option to the Start as well as the taskbar in Windows 10.

There is nothing better than the built-in Windows logo + L keyboard shortcut to lock your Windows 10 computer. But if you prefer using a mouse or on a touch device, you might want to add the Lock option to the Start and taskbar for quick and easy access.

To add the Lock option to Start and taskbar, we need to create a shortcut to the Lock option and then pin the shortcut to the taskbar as well as the Start.

Complete the directions given below to add the Lock option to Start and taskbar in Windows 10.

Step 1: Perform a right-click on an empty spot on the desktop, click New, and click Shortcut. Clicking on the Shortcut option will open the Create Shortcut wizard.

Step 2: In the “Type the location of the item” field, copy and paste the following path:

Rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

Step 3: Click on the Next button.

Step 4: In the “Type a name for the shortcut” field, type Lock. Click on the Finish button to create the Lock shortcut on the desktop. Clicking on the Lock shortcut icon on the desktop will immediately lock your computer.

NOTE: If you would like to change its default icon, right-click on it, click Properties, click the Change icon button, click on the Browse button, select an icon (file must be in .ico format), and then click Apply button. You can download cool icon file (.ico) files from the internet as well.

Step 5: To add the newly created Lock shortcut to the Start or taskbar, right-click on the Lock shortcut on the desktop and then click the Pin to Start or Pin to Taskbar to pin it to the Start menu or taskbar, respectively.
