How To Change Game DVR Folder (Captures) Location In Windows 10

Last Updated on May 17, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

The Game DVR is one the many features introduced for gamers in Windows 10. Using Game DVR, PC users can record games in high quality without the help of third-party utilities.

The Game DVR currently supports recording most of the games, default apps as well as apps installed from Store, and classic desktop programs. However, it cannot record all areas of the operating system. Desktop, File Explorer, for instance.

By default, Game DVR saves all recorded games in the following folder:

C:\Users\UserName\Videos\Captures

Where “C” is your Windows 10 installation drive and UserName is your user account name.

Windows 10 doesn’t allow you to change the default location of the folder where Game DVR clips and screenshots are saved. Gamers who often record games have been complaining that the system drive fills up fast because of this.

If the drive where Windows 10 is installed is filling up fast or running out of free space, you can move the Game DVR folder to another drive. But since Windows 10 doesn’t support changing this default Game DVR folder, you cannot move just the Game DVR folder.

Windows 10 supports moving the Videos folder (the parent folder of Captures folder where Game DVR saves clips and snapshots). You can use this provision to move the Game DVR folder to another location. In simple words, you cannot move just the Captures folder under the Videos but you can move the Videos folder.
