Although the Notepad app has been part of the Windows operating system since Windows 1.0, for the most part, it’s been a bare-bones note-taking app.

Things started changing swiftly for Notepad post the launch of Windows 11. Microsoft added several new features to Notepad over the past four years as it has discontinued the classic WordPad app.

Support for multiple tabs, dark mode, spelling check and autocorrect, AI features, and a recent files list were added since the launch of Windows 11.

In addition to the features mentioned above, the newest version of Notepad in Windows 11 now supports text formatting as well. This means it now supports bold and italic text, and you can also insert bullets, numbers, and links.

This guide shows you how to insert bullets and numbers in Windows 11.

Please ensure that you are running the latest version of Windows 11 if you are unable to see this feature on your Windows 11 device. Go to the Settings app > Windows Update page, then click the “Check for updates” button to download and install the latest updates.
