The Edge Add-ons page currently offers two types of themes for Microsoft Edge browser – themes for Edge and themes for websites.
A theme designed for the Edge browser changes the Edge browser’s appearance, whereas a theme intended for website changes the color of websites it is designed for. For example, a dark theme for Google search enables dark mode for Google search in the Edge browser.
Unlike the Chrome browser, the Edge Add-ons page offers a relatively lesser number of themes.
Follow the given below directions to install and change themes in the Chromium-based Edge browser.
Install a new theme in Microsoft Edge
Step 1: Click on the three dots located top right of the Edge browser to reveal the menu. Click Extensions.
Step 2: In the Find new extensions section, click the Get extensions for the Microsoft Edge button to open the official Add-ons page extensions page.
Currently, the Edge extensions page offers both themes and extensions.
Step 3: Once the extensions page is up, type “themes” in the search box and then hit the Enter key to search for all available themes. If you are looking for a specific theme, type its name in the search box.
Step 4: To install a theme, click on the Add button next to the theme’s entry. If you want to know more details about a theme, click on the theme’s title to open its dedicated page where you can get additional information such as version number, last updated date, and description. Click on the Add button to install the theme.
Step 5: When you get the confirmation pop-up, click the Add theme or Add extension (themes designed for websites are offered as an extension) button to install and apply the theme. Note that the browser theme will be applied immediately. If the installed theme is for a specific website, you will witness the theme when visiting that website.
Uninstall or remove a theme in Microsoft Edge
Step 1: Click on the three horizontal dots and then click the Settings option to open the Edge settings page.
Step 2: On the left pane, click Appearance. In the Custom theme section, you will see all installed themes. To uninstall a theme, click on the Remove button next to it.
If one or more installed themes are not showing up here, it’s likely because they have been installed as extensions.
Uninstall an Edge theme installed as an extension
Themes for websites are offered and installed as extensions. Therefore, they do not show up on the browser themes section. To remove themes offered as extensions:
Step 1: Click on the three dots icon and then click Extensions.
Step 2: In the Installed extensions section, turn off the theme/extension you want to remove.
Step 3: Click on the Remove link to uninstall and remove the installed extension/theme. When you get the confirmation, click the Yes button.
