The Sleep mode in Windows 11 helps save energy and extend battery life. By default, Windows 11 puts your computer to sleep mode after 10 minutes of inactivity.
When your PC is in sleep mode, it uses about 10% of the power it consumes when it’s awake. This makes it perfect for short periods of inactivity.
Besides, unlike hibernation mode, your Windows 11 PC wakes immediately upon pressing any key on the keyboard or moving the mouse.
While sleep mode works smoothly, you might want to prevent your Windows 11 PC from entering sleep mode automatically. For instance, when downloading a huge file in a web browser, you might want to stop Windows 11 from automatically entering sleep mode after x minutes of inactivity.
This guide shows you how to prevent a Windows 11 PC from entering sleep mode automatically.
Stop Windows 11 PC from entering sleep mode automatically
NOTE: This method does not disable the sleep mode feature. Instead, it just stops Windows 11 from automatically entering sleep mode. You can manually put your PC into sleep mode by right-clicking the Windows logo (Start button) on the taskbar, clicking Shutdown or Sign out, and then clicking the Sleep option.
Step 1: Open Windows 11 Settings using search or the Windows logo + I keyboard shortcut.
Step 2: On the left pane, click System. Now, on the right side, click Power & battery. Note that if your Windows 11 PC does not have a battery, you will see only Power, not Power & battery.
Step 3: Here, click Screen, sleep & hibernation timeouts.
Step 4: Select the “Never” option from the drop-down next to “Make my device sleep after,” present in both the “Plugged in” and “On battery” sections, to stop Windows 11 from automatically entering sleep mode. Once again, if you are on a desktop PC, you will not see the “On battery” section. That’s it!
If and when you want to turn sleep mode back on, select a time from the drop-down next to “Make my device sleep after”.
