Just like the previous versions of the Windows operating system, the latest Windows 11 also ships with a built-in security solution to protect you and your personal data in real-time from viruses, malware, and other common threats.
The built-in Windows Security app (formerly known as Windows Defender) includes Microsoft Defender antivirus, Windows Firewall, and Smart App Control.
The Windows Security app and its included features work quite well. In fact, most users do not need a third-party antivirus solution, as the antivirus engine built into Windows Security is robust and accurate.
The Windows Security app and its included security features work without any issues. However, if one of the features or all of them are not working correctly, you can consider repairing and resetting the Windows Security app.
Because the Windows Security app does not appear in the Apps > Installed apps page of the Settings app, most users believe that the Windows Security app cannot be reset or repaired, unlike other apps. However, it’s perfectly possible to reset and repair the Windows Security app.
This guide shows you how to reset and repair the Windows Security app in Windows 11.
NOTE: When you have issues with the Windows Security app or its features, we recommend rebooting your computer once before attempting to reset or repair it.
