Although iTunes is no longer necessary to activate iPhone/iPad or update iOS software, the software is still required to backup iOS devices to your computer. PC users often use iTunes to buy music and movies from the iTunes store.
It’s been a while since the iTunes app is available for download from Windows 10/11 Store. The iTunes app in the Store offers everything you get in the classic iTunes program.
iTunes generally works without any issues on Windows 10 and 11. However, at times, it might refuse to recognize connected iPhone or iPad, might feel sluggish or might refuse to open as well.
If you are experiencing issues with the iTunes app on Windows 10/11, you can repair it or reset it to default settings to address issues.
Please note that only the iTunes downloaded from the Store offers repair and reset functions.
Repair iTunes in Windows 10/11
Scroll down to see directions for Reset.
Repairing iTunes will not delete the data saved in the app.
Step 1: On Windows 10 PC, open the Settings app and navigate to System > Apps > Apps & features. On Windows 11, go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps page.
Step 2: Look for the iTunes entry and then click on it to reveal the hidden Advanced options link. Click on the same link.
If the Advanced options link is not showing up, it’s likely because you are running the classic version of the iTunes program. As said before, repair and reset options are available for the iTunes app downloaded from the Store only.
Step 3: In the resulting iTunes settings page, scroll down to see Reset and Repair options. Click on the Repair button to begin repairing the iTunes app.
Once the job is done, a check sign will appear next to the Repair button indicating that the Repair job is successfully completed.
Reset iTunes in Windows 10/11
Resetting iTunes will delete iTunes’s data saved on your PC.
Step 1: Close the iTunes app if it’s running and navigate to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
Step 2: Click on the iTunes entry to see the Advanced options link. Click the Advanced options link to open the app’s settings page.
Step 3: Scroll down the page to see the Reset button. Click on the Reset button. Click the Reset button again when you see the small confirmation dialog to begin resetting the app.
Resetting the iTunes will reinstall the app and revert to its default settings. This process will not take more than a few seconds. A check sign will appear next to the Reset button once the Reset operation is completed.
You may now launch the iTunes app.
