Windows 11 has several recovery options to fix problems with the Windows 11 installation.

Microsoft recently added a new recovery option called Quick Machine Recovery. Available in Windows 11 24H2 with KB5062660 installed, the Quick Machine Recovery feature comes in handy when your Windows 11 PC fails to boot!

How does the Quick Machine Recovery feature work in Windows 11?

The Quick Machine Recovery feature is designed to help users when Windows 11 fails to boot. If your Windows 11 fails to boot due to an error, the Quick Machine Recovery feature automatically uses Windows Update to provide remediation options and fix issues. In other words, the feature automatically connects your Windows 11 PC to the network and applies the available fixes.

When your Windows 11 device fails to boot and restarts repeatedly, the Quick Machine Recovery feature automatically detects the issue and scans Windows Update (using an internet connection) for available solutions. If found, the remediation is downloaded and applied before restarting the Windows 11 device. Simple as that!

Although the Quick Machine Recovery feature might not have solutions for every single issue, the feature might be handy for common problems caused by updates.

Turn on or off the Quick Machine Recovery feature in Windows 11

Step 1: Open the Windows 11 Settings app using search, the Windows logo + I keyboard shortcut, or another method.

Step 2: On the left pane of the Settings app, click System. Now, on the right side, find and click Recovery to see all recovery options offered by Windows 11.

NOTE: If the Quick Machine Recovery option does not show up, it’s likely because you are running an older version of Windows 11.

Once you turn it on, you can alter the default behavior of the Quick Machine Recovery feature, like how often the device should look for solutions and how frequently the device should be restarted.
