The much awaited Office 2010 RTM is finally available to download for TechNet and MSDN subscribers. Users who have been running Office 2010 beta will certainly like to upgrade to Office 2010 RTM.
Unfortunately, one can’t directly upgrade from Office 2010 beta to Office 2010 RTM. One need to uninstall Office 2010 beta before installing RTM one. If you try to install Office 2010 RTM without uninstalling the Office Beta, you will see “Microsoft Office 2010 does not support upgrading from a prerelease version of Microsoft Office 2010. You must first uninstall any prerelease versions of Microsoft Office 2010 products and associated technologies” error.
So here is how to cleanly uninstall Office 2010 beta :
1. Type appwiz.cpl in Start menu search box and then hit enter to open Programs and Features window.
2. In the Programs and Features window, locate Office 2010 entry, right-click on the entry and then click Uninstall it.
3. Uninstall process may take a few seconds to minutes.
4. Reboot your computer to complete the process. Once uninstalled, begin installing Office 2010 RTM on your PC.

I tried office 2010 with appwiz.cpl. The uninstaller had not launched but the mso2010 entry disappeared from list of programs though I can still launch mso2010 programs.

I have uninstalled the Beta version and still get the same message. Microsoft sucks.

professional technical preview for two days and certencly does not work the way you dicribe here how to do it.
Will says
So I did exactly this, restarted and Microsoft Office 2010 (Beta) no longer appears in appwiz.cpl.
Unfortunately, trying to install my recently purchased copy of Office 2010 Professional STILL gives me that same error!
Found some help in the Microsoft support knowledge base.

If the “Have Microsoft fix it” link doesn’t work for you (it didn’t for me) then it is a long process, but the article is very well written and worked perfectly for my Windows 7 64 bit operating system uninstalling the 64-bit Office 2010 Beta.

Thanks so much for posting these how to’s for everyone who’s trying to take advantage of the Office 2010 RTM! It took so many people to get to this point. You should read Takeshi Numoto’s post, Office’s Corporate Vice President, at the Office 2010 Engineering blog. You’ll get connected with pre-sale information as well as details about the office 2010 launch events.
