How To Upgrade To Windows 10 Version 2004 Right Now

Windows 10 May 2020 Update (version 2004) is now available to PC users running the most recent versions of Windows 10.

If you are running an earlier version of Windows 10, you might want to upgrade to version 2004 right away to experience the performance improvements and quality enhancements.

There are two ways to upgrade your Windows 10 installation to version 2004 right away. We will discuss both the methods in this guide.

It’s worth noting that the version 2004 won’t be automatically installed without the user consent. If version 2004 is available for your computer, it will be listed under the optional updates section.

To check your current version of Windows 10, type winver.exe and then hit the Enter key.

Upgrade to Windows 10 version 2004 via Windows Update

Step 1: Open the Settings app. Navigate to Update & Security > Windows Update.

Step 2: Click on the Check for updates button. If Windows 10 version 2004 is available for your PC, you will see the same under the Optional updates available section.

Step 3: Click the Download and install now link to begin downloading the version 2004 of Windows 10 and install it.

When you are asked to restart, reboot your PC once to complete the upgrade.

You can go back to the previous build of Windows 10 in the first ten days after the upgrade if you experience any issues with it.

Upgrade to Windows 10 version 2004 using Media Creation Tool

The official Windows 10 Media Creation Tool now supports downloading and upgrading to Windows 10 version 2004. Here is how to use it to upgrade to version 2004.

Step 1: Get the Media Creation Tool from this page. Click the Download tool now button on that page to download the Media Creation Tool.

Step 2: Run the Media Creation Tool. Accept the license agreement.

Step 3: Select the Upgrade this PC now radio button. Click on the Next button.

Step 4: The Media Creation Tool will start downloading the files from Microsoft. This might take minutes to hours depending on your internet speed.

Step 5: Once the download is completed, you will get the following screen where you click the Install button to upgrade to version 2004 by keeping files and installed programs. Note that you can change the same by clicking the Change what to keep link.

Your PC will restart and start installing updates.
