Ever since the release of Windows 8, all PC manufactures have started embedding product license key into the BIOS/EFI. That is, computers pre-installed with Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 don’t display product key information or Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker on the backup of the computer or in the battery bay.

Instead, PC manufactures have started embedding product key into the BIOS or EFI, and it can be seen by entering the BIOS/EFI of your computer.

This morning the power glitched while Windows 10 was loading and when I restarted the computer Windows said my activation will expire soon. WHAT? I paid $200 for a retail copy of Windows 10 Pro and entered the Product Key when I installed it. This is a home built computer, not a OEM pre-installed License. None of the Windows key finder programs can find the Product Key. I re-entered my code from the card in the box and it’s activated again, but says a digital license linked to my Microsoft Account.
I have a UEFI BIOS but there is no key in it. Magic Jelly Bean Key Finder can’t find a key, even the Windows key tool can’t find one. ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming Motherboard.
    Inconvenient, but not a problem.
But WHY did Windows 10 ask to be activated (AGAIN) at all? 10 months since I bought it and installed it.

The sad thing is, Microsoft is making these things so complicated with DRM/Activation/etc, that I gave up & switched to Xubuntu earlier in the year.

Not only was installation easier than Windows, but it is faster, comes with full version of Libre Office for free, & just works better.

I was so excited that I helped convert around 2-3,000 or so family, friends, & workers this year to Xubuntu Linux also.
I’m sure Microsoft must be equally excited!!!

I found that Norton was identifying the file as unsafe as was deleting it soon after being downloaded. Turned Norton off and saved file to another location
