6 Ways To Sign Out Of Your Account In Windows 11

If you have created multiple user accounts on your Windows 11 PC to let your family use your PC as well, you might want to sign out of your Windows 11 user account after using your PC to protect your privacy.

There are multiple ways to sign out of your user account in Windows 11. You can use the Start menu, power user menu, or Command Prompt to sign out in Windows 11.

Important: Signing out will close all running applications. Save your work before attempting to sign out of your account to avoid losing unsaved data.

Method 1 of 6

Sign out from the Start menu in Windows 11

Step 1: Open the Start menu by clicking the Windows logo icon on the taskbar or pressing the Windows logo key on the keyboard.

Step 2: Click your user profile picture to see a small flyout (refer to the picture below).

Step 3: Click the Sign out option to sign out of your Windows 11 account immediately.

Sign out from the power user menu on the Start menu in Windows 11

Step 1: Right-click the Windows logo icon on the taskbar, click Shut down or sign out, and then click the Sign out option.

Keyboard shortcut to sign out in Windows 11

Step 1: Simultaneously press the Windows logo and X keys (Windows logo + X) to open the power user menu.

Step 2: Press the “U” key to see all power options.

Step 3: Finally, press the “I” key to sign out of your Windows 11 user account.

Method 4 of 6

The classic way to sign out of your Windows 11 account

Step 1: Ensure that all the apps are closed.

Step 2: Simultaneously press the Alt and F4 keys (Alt + F4) to open the classic Shut down Windows dialog.

Step 3: Here, select the Sign out option from the drop-down and then click the OK button. That’s it!

Sign out in Windows 11 using the Ctrl + Alt + Delete screen

Step 1: Simultaneously press the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys to see the Ctrl + Alt + Del screen.

Step 2: Here, click the Sign out option.

Sign out of a user account from the Command Prompt in Windows 11

Step 1: Open the Command Prompt as an administrator. To do that, search for Command Prompt, right-click the Command Prompt entry in the results, and then click the Run as administrator option.

Click the Yes button when you get the UAC prompt.

Step 2: Finally, copy and paste the following command:

Logoff

Press the Enter key to sign out of your current Windows 11 account immediately.
