Replace The Default Windows 7 Icons Using AdSevenIconChanger

Last Updated on February 21, 2021 by admin Leave a Comment

While Microsoft has introduced hundreds of new features in Windows 7, it hasn’t tried tweaking the user interface except the taskbar. Users who have upgraded from Vista or users who are familiar with Vista, don’t have many surprises when it comes to the user interface area.

Windows 7 ships with same set of icons that were introduced with its predecessor Vista. Users who have been using Windows 7 for a long time or users who don’t like one or more system icons of Windows 7 may want to change the default icons. While it’s possible to install one of the hundreds of icon packs available on the web to quickly change most of the system icons, you can’t use icon pack installers to change just one or two icons.

If you bored with the default Windows 7 icons and want to replace Windows icons with custom ones, you can now use a free tool named AdSevenIconChanger to customize default system icons.

Replace Default Icon In Windows 7

With AdSevenIconChanger, you can customize over 40 different system icons. By default Windows stores all icons in dll files such as Shell32.dll, Imageres.dll, User32.dll, Powercpl.dll, which can be found in System32 folder. Select the icon that you wish to change, and then click select icon to browse to the custom icon file. You can also choose an icon present in above mentioned system files as your custom icon.

Please note that once you replace an icon,  you will need to restart or log off to apply changes. If the new icon isn’t appearing even after a restart, please rebuild the icon cache. AdSevenIconChanger also allows you restore the original one at any time. Make sure that you run the AdSevenIconChanger with admin rights to avoid any error.

We recommend creating a system restore point before changing the default Windows 7 icons. You might also like to know how to change Windows 7 drive icons.
