Two days back, as usual, I connected my iPhone to the USB port of my laptop to manually import photos from iPhone to Windows 10 laptop. While transferring photos from iPhone to Windows 10 laptop, I noticed that the iPhone was not charging.
If your iPhone is not charging when connected to a Windows 10 running laptop, it could be because of many reasons.
We suggest you try out the given below troubleshooting tips to solve the iPhone charging issue.
Reconnect iPhone to your laptop
Unplug the iPhone from your laptop and connect it again. This time make sure that you have firmly connected the charging cable to both your laptop and iPhone.
Plug the iPhone to a different USB port
Your iPhone might not be charging when connected to your laptop’s USB port because the USB port is getting power. So, we suggest you unplug your iPhone and connect it to a different USB port on your laptop.
Some users use external keyboards that have USB ports. If your keyboard has a USB port, please don’t connect your iPhone to USB ports on your keyboard. Always connect the iPhone to the USB port on your laptop.
Make sure that the laptop is running
On most PCs, USB ports don’t get the power when the laptop is sleeping or turned off. On some laptops, one of the USB ports gets the power even when the laptop is not running. Generally, OEMs indicate the powered USB port with an icon next to it. Check for the same if you are trying to charge your iPhone when your laptop is sleeping or not running.
Also, we recommend you connect your laptop to a power source when the iPhone is connected to your laptop.

Reboot your iPhone & PC
It’s worth restarting both your iPhone and computer once if the connected iPhone is not charging. To restart your iPhone, press and hold the side button until you get the power off slider. Drag the slider to turn off the iPhone. After your iPhone is turned off, press and hold the side button again until you see the Apple logo to turn on the iPhone. If you are using iPhone X or later, you will need to hold down the side button and volume button (either of the two) to see the power off slider.
Check if the iPhone charges when connected to a wall power outlet
It’s possible that the charging cable is damaged. So, check the cable for damage. In some cases, the lightning port (where you connect the cable) might also get damaged. So, it’s a wise idea to connect your iPhone to a wall power outlet and make sure that it gets the power.
We also suggest you check the lightning port for dust and other debris. In my case, debris in the lightning port was the reason why my iPhone was not charging.
Connect the iPhone to a different computer
If none of the troubleshooting tips mentioned-above helped you resolve the issue, try connecting the iPhone to a different computer and check if it starts charging. If yes, you can be sure that there is nothing wrong with your iPhone and the charging cable.

This is in reply to Joe: The advice on plugging the phone into the wall is to determine whether the cable or the phone is still good with charging, and thereby identifying the culprit is the laptop.

If I had the ability to test plugging the phone into the wall, then why would I be having this issue of not being able to charge my phone on my computer?
