How To Create Keyboard Shortcut To Turn On Or Off Dark Mode In Windows 11

Last Updated on March 7, 2022 by admin Leave a Comment

Windows 11 ships with a dark mode that works with the Start menu, taskbar, File Explorer, Settings app, menus, and apps that support the dark mode. The dark mode makes it easier to focus and causes less eye fatigue.

Although the dark mode works flawlessly, it cannot be turned on or off quickly. To turn on or off the dark mode, we need to navigate to Settings > Personalization > Colors page and then change the mode to dark or light to turn on or off the dark mode. Unfortunately, there is no option to turn it on or off via Quick Access either.

If you often switch between dark and light modes, you might want to know a way to turn on or off the dark mode quickly. Although Windows 11 currently does not offer a fast way to turn on or off the dark mode, there is a third-party tool that not only lets you turn on or off the dark mode right from the taskbar but also allows you to create a keyboard shortcut to turn on or off the Windows 11 dark mode.

Easy Dark Mode is a small tool designed to help Windows 11 and Windows 10 users quickly switch between the dark mode and light mode. The program, when running, sits in the system tray area of the taskbar.

Users can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the Easy Dark Mode icon in the system tray. In addition, there is an option for users who love keyboard shortcuts to set dedicated hotkeys to turn on or off the dark mode.

Assign keyboard shortcut to switch on or off dark mode

To assign a keyboard shortcut to turn on or off the dark mode, right-click on its icon in the system tray and click Hotkey. Next, select a letter from the drop-down menu and choose between Alt, Ctrl, Windows and Shift to assign a hotkey. For instance, to set Ctrl + Alt + B as the hotkey to toggle the dark mode on or off, you need to select the B from the drop-down menu first and then select Ctrl and Alt checkboxes. Finally, click the OK button.

We recommend configuring the program to load with Windows 11 so that you do not need to manually run it. To do that, right-click on its icon in the system tray and then select the Autostart option.

Create a desktop shortcut to turn on or off dark mode in Windows 11

If you prefer to create a desktop shortcut, you can do so as well by saving the Easy Dark Mode executable on the desktop. If you wish, you can pin to the taskbar by right-clicking on it and then selecting the Pin to taskbar option.
