How To Record Screen In Windows 11 Using Snipping Tool

After a long time, the Snipping Tool has finally received the much-requested feature – screen record. Yes, the Snipping Tool now supports screen recording. And the catch? The screen record feature is available in Windows 11 only!

On Windows 11 PCs, the Snipping Tool can now be used to video record a portion of the screen or the entire screen. Recorded screen videos will be saved in the popular MP4 format.

Recording the whole or a portion of the screen is easy. This guide shows you how to use the Snipping Tool to video record the screen.

Use Snipping Tool to video record screen on Windows 11 PC

Step 1: Launch the Snipping Tool using search.

Step 2: Change the snip option from the default picture to video (refer to the image below).

Step 3: Now, click on the “New” button.

Step 4: Next, you need to select the area of the screen you wish to record. If you want to record the whole screen, select the entire screen.

Step 5: Finally, click the Start button on the Snipping Tool’s toolbar to begin recording the video of the selected screen area.

When the screen is being recorded, you can click on the pause button to pause the video. Then, when you want to resume the video, click the resume button on the toolbar.

Step 6: To finish the screen recording, click the red (stop recording) button.

Step 7: You will now get the following Snipping Tool screen where you can watch the recorded video. Click the play button to watch the video.

To save the video, click the Save button, select a location to save, type a name for the video file, and then click the Save button.

Change Snipping Tool video format on Windows 11 PC

The Snipping Tool saves recorded videos in the widely used MP4 format. However, as of now, it does not let you change the video in any other format. So, you cannot change the Snipping Tool’s default video format.

All you can do is use third-party software to convert the MP4 video to a format of your choice. There are plenty of free applications around to convert videos from one format to another.
