The majority of Windows 11 PC users use either the built-in Outlook New app or Outlook Old (now called Outlook Classic) to manage their emails. As you might know, the Outlook New app is free, whereas the Outlook Old requires a Microsoft Office purchase or a Microsoft 365 subscription.
When managing emails in Outlook New or Outlook Classic, most users prefer to see the most recent emails at the top of the list. Both Outlook New and Outlook Old, by default, show recent emails at the top unless you have changed the default settings.
If your Outlook New or Outlook Old app is not displaying the newest emails at the top of the list, here is how to configure the email client to display recent emails at the top of the list.
Display recent emails at the top in the Outlook New app on a Windows 11 PC
Step 1: Launch the Outlook New app using search or any other method.
Step 2: Once launched, click the Sort icon (see the picture below) to toggle between Show newest on top and Show oldest on top. For instance, if the Outlook app is displaying the oldest emails at the top, click the Sort icon once to start seeing the newest emails at the top.\
If the Outlook app does not show the newest emails at the top even after this, click the next icon (refer to the picture below) and ensure that Date and Newest on top are selected in the menu.
From now on, the Outlook New app should display the newest emails at the top of the list.
