When Windows 11 was launched back in 2021, its taskbar did not have all the features and options found in the earlier versions of Windows operating systems. In addition to the inability to move the taskbar to the top, left, and right, it did not offer an option to make the taskbar smaller than the default size.
The problem with the default size of the taskbar in Windows 11 is that it’s thicker than the one in Windows 10 and earlier versions. Taskbar icons are also bigger than in earlier versions. While users who are on larger displays might not find it a problem, users on smaller displays say the default taskbar size takes up a considerable amount of screen real estate.
About a year ago, to address the issue, Microsoft added an option to make Windows 11 taskbar icons smaller, but it only reduces the size of taskbar icons, not the taskbar size.

The latest update adds many features to customize the Start menu and taskbar, including an option to make the Windows 11 Start menu smaller.
