Saving files is one of the common tasks all computer users perform every day. When you try to save a file or document by clicking the File menu and then clicking the Save/Save as option or pressing the Ctrl + S hotkey, the Save as dialog shows up. The Save as dialog also shows up when you press Ctrl + Shift + S hotkey.
The Save as dialog, with default settings, allows users to select a location to save the file and also name the file. By default, the left navigation pane of the Save as dialog shows Home/Quick Access, pinned and other important folders such as Desktop, Downloads, Documents and Pictures so that users can quickly select a location of their choice to save the selected file.
However, at times, you might notice that the Save as dialog might not show folders in the left navigation pane, causing difficulty in selecting a location/folder to save the selected file. As you can see in the picture above, it allows users to only enter a name for the file but not select a location.
If the Save as dialog does not show folders on your Windows 11 PC, it has been configured to hide folders. Here is how to show folders in the Save as dialog in Windows 10/11.
