With Windows 11, Microsoft introduced a redesigned Settings app. The app is much more organized and easier to use than its predecessor in Windows 10. It is the central place to access and change various Windows settings and options.
The Windows 11 Settings app is pretty reliable and stable. However, very rarely, it may refuse to open or switch from one page to another.
If the Settings app is not opening or not working properly, restarting it should fix the issue. But what if restarting the Settings app does not fix the issue? This guide shows you how to fix Settings app issues in Windows 11.
Many users, interestingly, are not aware that both Windows 10 and 11 allow users to reset and repair the Settings app. Yes, like other UWP apps, you can also reset and repair the Settings app to fix problems. It’s just that these options cannot be accessed from the Settings app as the Apps > Installed apps page does not show Settings entry.
NOTE: Before following the directions below to reset and repair the Settings app, we recommend you reboot your PC once as many Windows issues go away upon a restart.
Fix the Settings app problems by repairing it in Windows 11
Step 1: In the Start menu or taskbar search field, type Settings to see the Settings app entry in the search results.
Step 2: Perform a right-click on the Settings app entry and then click App settings to open the Settings app settings page.
Step 3: Scroll down the page to see the Reset section. Here, click the Repair button to repair the Settings app.
Check if repairing the Settings app has fixed the issue. If not, try resetting it by following the directions given below.
Reset the Settings app to fix its issue in Windows 11
When you reset the Settings app, your Windows 11 settings will not be deleted. So, you can safely reset the Settings app.
Step 1: Search for Settings in the Start menu or taskbar search box.
Step 2: Right-click on the Settings app entry in the search result and then click the App settings option. This will open the advanced settings page of Settings.
Step 3: Scroll down the page. Under the Reset section, click the Reset button. When asked for confirmation, click the Reset button again to reset the Settings app.
The Settings app will be automatically closed to reset it. You should be able to launch it again in a few seconds.
