Multiple options are available to access This PC on a Windows 11 PC. However, many users prefer clicking the This PC icon on the desktop. But what if the This PC icon is missing from your Windows 11 desktop? This guide shows you how to restore the missing This PC icon.
Once the This PC icon is added to your Windows 11 desktop, you can double-click on it to open It in File Explorer. As you likely know, This PC in File Explorer shows all drives, including connected external hard drives and mounted ISO/IMG files.
Add This PC icon to the Windows 11 desktop
Step 1: Perform a right-click on an empty spot on the desktop and then click Personalize to open the Personalization page of the Settings app.
Step 2: On the right side, click Themes to navigate to Settings > Personalization > Themes page.
Step 3: On this page, click the Desktop icon settings link in the Related section to open the Desktop Icon Settings dialog.
Step 4: Finally, in the Desktop icons section, select the Computer option and then click the Apply button to add the missing This PC icon to the Windows 11 desktop. As you can see in the picture above, the dialog also offers options to add the Recycle Bin icon to the desktop.
This PC icon should immediately appear on the Windows 11 desktop. If not, right-click on an empty spot on the desktop, click View, and then click Show desktop icons.
Rename This PC to My Computer or Computer in Windows 11
If you prefer seeing My Computer instead of This PC on your Windows 11 desktop, you can rename it. Here is how.
Step 1: Perform a right-click on the This PC icon on the desktop and then click the Rename icon.
Step 2: Type My Computer, Computer, or any other name and then press the Enter key. That’s it!
Remove This PC from the Windows 11 desktop
Step 1: Right-click the This PC icon on the desktop and then click the Delete icon.
Step 2: If you are prompted with a confirmation prompt, click the Yes button to remove the icon from the desktop.
Add This PC icon to the Start menu in Windows 11
Step 1: Follow the instructions mentioned above to create This PC icon on the desktop.
Step 2: Right-click on the This PC icon on the desktop and then click the Pin to Start option.
This PC icon will be added to the Pinned section of the Start menu. If you cannot see it, scroll down the pinned apps list. You can drag and drop to the top of the list if you wish to do so.
Show or hide desktop icons in Windows 11
If you have multiple icons and files on your desktop, you can hide them to keep your desktop neat and clean. To hide or show all desktop icons, right-click on the desktop, click View, and then select/deselect the Show desktop icons option.
