Microsoft Office Word requires no introduction. It is one of the most loved document processors out there.
With default settings, the status bar (the bar that appears at the bottom of the Word window) shows many useful details, such as the page number and word count.
However, at times, the word count might go missing from the status bar. If the word count is missing from the Word program in your Windows or macOS as well, here is how to restore it.
NOTE: Remember that the Office Word program does not show the status bar (which shows the word count) when in Focus mode. You need to either exit the Focus mode or move the mouse pointer to the top edge of the screen to view the ribbon and status bar. Additionally, the Read mode does not show the word count.
Restore the word count in Office Word in Windows 10/11 and macOS
Step 1: Open the Word application. Perform a right-click on the status bar and then select the Word count option to add the Word count to the status bar and show the word count immediately.
Check the word count when the word counter is missing in Windows 10/11
Office Word application for Windows 10/11 offers an option to check the word count in a document even when the word counter is missing from the status bar.
Step 1: In the search box of Office Word, type Word count and then hit the Enter key.
Step 2: The resulting word count dialog shows the number of pages, characters, lines, paragraphs, and words in the document.
