The taskbar has been part of the Windows operating system for a long time. It not only shows open apps but also allows you to open the Start menu, access the search function and calendar, and displays date and time along with volume, battery, and network status.
Because most users use the taskbar to access the Start menu, search, and switch between running apps, Windows 11 is configured to always show the taskbar by default.
If your Windows 11 taskbar is not showing or the taskbar disappears once you move the mouse cursor away from the taskbar area, it’s likely because the taskbar has been configured to automatically hide when not in use.
This guide shows you how to always show the taskbar in Windows 11.
NOTE: Windows 11 does not display the taskbar when some programs are running in full-screen mode (not maximized). For instance, if you click the F11 key when the Edge browser is open, the Edge browser will open in the full screen (press the F11 key again to exit full screen). During the full-screen mode, the taskbar does not appear.
Tip: When the taskbar is hidden, you can quickly bring it up by pressing the Windows logo key.
Make Windows 11 always show the taskbar
Step 1: Open Windows 11 Settings either using search or Windows logo + I keyboard shortcuts.
Step 2: Once the Settings app is on the screen, click Personalization in the left pane.
Step 3: Now, on the right side, click Taskbar to see the settings and options available to personalize the taskbar.
Step 4: Scroll down to see Taskbar behaviors. Click on it to expand.
Step 5: Finally, deselect the Automatically hide the taskbar option. That’s it!
From now onwards, Windows 11 will always show the taskbar.
If the above solution does not always show the taskbar, please restart your PC and check if there are any external taskbar personalization programs stopping the taskbar from showing up.
