How To Change Forgotten Windows 10 Password Using Password Reset Disk

In one of our previous articles titled how to create a Windows 10 password reset disk, we discussed creating a password reset disk to reset the Windows 10 local user account password.

The password reset disk feature comes as a savior if you ever forget your password. You can use the previously created password reset disk to reset and change the account password and sign in to your account to change the password.

As said, the password reset disk can reset the local user account password only. It cannot be used to reset the Microsoft account password.

If you don’t have a password reset disk for your account and forgotten your account password, you can use this guide to reset and change your Windows 10 local user account password.

Use password reset disk to change forgotten Windows 10 password

IMPORTANT: If you don’t have a password reset disk for your account, you can use Windows Password Recovery free to reset your Windows 10/8/7 password.

Follow the procedure given below to reset your Windows 10 local user account password using the previously created password reset disk.

Step 1: After entering a wrong password at the login screen of Windows 10, you will see “The password is incorrect. Try again” message. Click the OK button.

Step 2: You should now see Reset password link. Insert your previously created password reset disk and then click the Reset password link.

Step 3: At the Password Reset Wizard dialog, click the Next button.

Step 4: Choose your password reset disk from the drop-down dialog. By default, the Password Reset Wizard selects the right removable password reset disk. However, we recommend you please check the same before proceeding further.

Click Next button.

Step 5: Finally, you will be asked to enter the new password for your user account, retype the new password and type a hint to remember the password if you forget it again in future.

Click Next button to proceed to the last step.

Step 6: Finally, click Finish button to change the password and revert to the login screen. Enter the new password to sign in to your Windows 10 PC.
