Google does not offer an official YouTube app for the Windows operating system. Because of this reason, PC users have no option but to use web browsers to access and watch YouTube videos.

NOTE: You can also install YouTube as an app in Windows 10/11 using Chrome or Edge.

Create a YouTube shortcut on the Windows 10/11 desktop
Step 1: Perform a right-click on an empty spot on the desktop, click New, and then click Shortcut to open the Create Shortcut wizard.
Step 2: In the Type the location of the item field, type https://www.youtube.com and then click the Next button.
Step 3: Finally, type YouTube in the field before clicking the Finish button. This will create a YouTube icon on your Windows 11/10 desktop.
Double-clicking the YouTube icon on the desktop will open the YouTube website in your default web browser.

Create a YouTube shortcut on the desktop in Windows 11 using Google Chrome
Step 1: Open Chrome browser, visit the official YouTube website.
Step 2: Now, open the Chrome menu by clicking the three dots in the toolbar.
Step 3: Click the Cast, Save, and Share option, and then click the Create shortcut option.
Step 4: When you see the following popup dialog, click the Create button to create a YouTube shortcut icon on your Windows 10/11 desktop.
You may now double-click the YouTube shortcut icon on the desktop to open the YouTube website in Chrome.

Create YouTube shortcut on desktop using Edge browser
Step 1: Head over to the YouTube website in your Edge browser.
Step 2: Click the three dots in the Edge’s toolbar, click Apps, and then click Install YouTube.
Step 3: You should now see a pop-up dialog on your screen. Click the Install button.
Step 4: Next, when you see the following popup, select Create Desktop shortcut and deselect all others before clicking the Allow button to create a YouTube shortcut icon on your Windows 11/10 desktop.
