How To Delete Point-In-Time Restore Points In Windows 11

Last Updated on July 8, 2026 by admin Leave a Comment

When enabled, the new Point-in-time restore feature in Windows 11 automatically captures new restore points approximately every 24 hours and deletes them once they are older than 72 hours.

While Point-in-time restore points do not consume much space on the drive, you might want to know how to delete them when your PC is running out of disk space.

While the current version of Windows 11 does not manually delete specific Point-in-time restore points, you can turn off the Point-in-time restore points and wait for up to 72 hours for Windows 11 to automatically delete them. Here is how.

Delete Point-in-time restore points to free up disk space in Windows 11

Step 1: Open the Windows 11 Settings app.

Step 2: On the left pane, click System. On the right side, click Recovery.

Step 4: Here, you need to turn off the Point-in-time restore feature by clicking the toggle button.

Unfortunately, turning off the feature will not automatically delete the Point-in-time restore points.

Once the Point-in-time restore feature is turned off, you need to wait for up to 72 hours for Windows 11 to automatically delete all restore points. Note that Windows 11 will delete the oldest restore point first once it’s older than 72 hours. So, depending on how old your restore points are, you might have to wait for two or three days for the restore points to get deleted automatically.

The Current restore points section shows all restore points available on your PC. You should not see any restore points after 72 hours.
