The all-new Point-in-time restore feature, introduced recently with the KB5095093 update, is an upgraded version of the classic System Restore feature, which has been part of the Windows operating system for a long time.
Unlike the classic System Restore feature, the new Point-in-time restore feature lets you restore your Windows 11 to the exact state it was in at the time the restore point was created. So, in addition to Windows settings and installed apps, it also restores your personal files.
Windows 11 does not let users manually create point-in-time restore points, unlike classic system restore points. Point-in-time restore points are automatically generated in the background approximately every 24 hours.
Before restoring your Windows 11 PC, you might want to know about the available point-in-time restore points and their creation date and time.
This guide shows you how to view all available point-in-time restore points in Windows 11.
Important: Note that classic system restore points are different from point-in-time restore points and cannot be used interchangeably.
View available point-in-time restore points in Windows 11
Step 1: Open the Windows 11 Settings app. Go to the System > Recovery page.
Step 2: Here, click the View or edit button next to Point-in-time restore. If it’s missing, it’s likely because the KB5095093 update is not installed on your PC yet.
Click the Yes button when you get the User Account Control prompt to see the Point-in-time restore settings dialog.
Step 3: Perform a click on the Current restore points to see a list of available point-in-time restore points that you can use to restore Windows 11 to previous time.
The list shows the date and time when a point-in-time restore point was created. The number beneath the date and time indicates the Windows 11 build number. Please note that you cannot initiate a point-in-time restore from the Settings app. You need to boot into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
On Windows 11 Home and Pro edition PCs, you may see up to 3 restore points, as they are automatically created approximately every 24 hours and deleted after 72 hours.
