While sending important emails, you might want to know when the email is delivered to the recipient’s mailbox and when it is read.
Will I get delivery and read receipts for all emails?
Even if you send an email message requesting delivery and read receipts, you might receive them only if the recipient is using an email client that supports these features and has not turned off these features.
That said, almost all major email clients support delivery and read receipts, and most users do not turn these features off.
What are delivery and read receipts?
A delivery receipt is an email notification that you receive upon the successful delivery of an email to the recipient’s mailbox.
Similarly, a read receipt tells you when a delivered email is opened by sending a confirmation email to you, the sender.
Delivery and read receipts in the new Outlook
The new Outlook app for Windows 10/11 lets users get delivery and read receipts. That is, the new Outlook app can notify you with an email when your sent email is delivered and opened. It’s worth noting that delivery and read receipt features are not available in the Mail app.
Get delivery and read receipts for an email in the new Outlook in Windows 10/11
Step 1: Launch the Outlook new app.
Step 2: Click the New email button in the toolbar (if using simplified ribbon) or click New and then click Mail (if using classic ribbon) to see the email compose screen.
Step 3: Now, click Options to see Request for delivery receipt and Request for read receipt options. Select the options as per your requirements.
Step 4: Finally, type other details, such as the email address of the recipient, subject, and email content, before clicking the Send button.
That’s it! When the email is successfully delivered to the recipient’s mailbox, you will receive an email in your inbox with details to indicate that the email has successfully been delivered.
Once the receipt opens the email, you will receive another email message with details to confirm that the email has been opened, which indicates that the email is possibly read by the recipient.
Please note that you need to manually turn on delivery and read receipts for each email. These options will be turned off automatically after an email is sent.
